Mod Podge Crackle Medium is a water-based craft medium formulated to create a weathered, antique, "egg-shell" crackle finish. It is designed for decoupage and craft projects on surfaces like wood, paper, canvas, and terra cotta.
How it Works
Unlike traditional two-step crackle mediums that require contrasting base and topcoat paints, this one-step formula can be applied over a base coat. The crackle will begin to appear as it dries.
Step-by-Step Usage
- Base Coat: Apply your base coat of acrylic craft paint or chalk paint and let it dry for at least 1 hour.
- Apply Crackle Medium: Apply a generous layer of the Crackle Medium. Apply it smoothly but avoid over-brushing. It goes on milky but dries completely clear.
- Optional Top Color: For a more dramatic, rustic look, you can apply a contrasting paint color over the crackle medium once it is completely dry.
- Antiquing: To make the fine cracks highly visible, brush thinned acrylic paint (such as an antiquing or brown paint) into the cracks and immediately wipe the surface with a damp lint-free cloth.
- Dry and Seal: Let the project fully cure for up to 4 weeks. Seal it with a clear Mod Podge topcoat to protect your finished work.
